Edgewood Presbyterian Church (EPC) is a Presbyterian Church (USA) member church that has been spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to people all over the Chattahoochee River Valley since 1952. We're conveniently located just down the street from the Columbus State University campus and only six miles up I-185 from Fort Benning. Whether you live on post, in Harris County, in Box Springs, Smiths Station, Phenix City, or anywhere in east Alabama or west Georgia, we want to be your Church home. Edgewood Presbyterian Church was established as an outreach of Columbus’ First Presbyterian Church. In the late 1940’s and early ‘50’s, there was no Presbyterian church in east Columbus while at the same time the area known as Edgewood along the Macon Road corridor was experiencing rapid residential growth. In 1950, property on the northwest corner of Macon Road and Cody Road (later renamed University Avenue) was purchased by First Church and soon construction began. Reverend William Bourne Clemmons, the man designated to be Edgewood’s first minister, visited many people in the area for months before the first building was completed. His efforts were rewarded when 56 worshippers arrived for his first sermon in May 1951. That Sunday he preached on Man’s Chief End is to Glorify God and Enjoy Him Forever.
It took almost another year, but Edgewood Presbyterian Church was officially chartered on March 30, 1952. Later, a building was built in late 1951 for educational purposes, and the sanctuary was in what is now known as Fellowship Hall and still later (1975) the current sanctuary was built. In the 55 years since EPC was chartered, there has been great change to the area around us and around the world. Through it all, Edgewood Presbyterian Church has continued to spread the Good News of the Gospel at home and abroad through its missions programs.
